Allow me to tell you a little about myself, what I do, and my life-long passion for design and creativity.
My name is Maria Lobanova. I am a graphic designer and an artist, and my graphic design studio, M Grafika, is located in Victoria BC. My formal training includes a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts, and a diploma in Graphic Design, acquired from schools in Europe and here in British Columbia. The learning hasn’t ended there; my eyes are always open to new sources of inspiration, such as the work of venerable designers and the portfolios of other contemporaries in the field. For those of us who truly love art, we are perennial students – always something new to discover and learn. For the past few years I have been taking drawing lessons with excellent teachers. This not only helps improve my technique, but impels me to watch how life enfolds around me.
I love to experiment and play with shapes, colour, layout, images and typography, the “tools” you might say “of my trade.”
Clients come to me to help portray their ideas in visual expressions that are striking and compelling. I enjoy the whole process, beginning with talking to people, getting to know them, understanding how their business works and their vision. It’s especially exciting to work with previous clients and team up with them as they move their business in new directions. Then I do research, sketch, story-board as part of the development phase, always communicating with my clients to ensure my design solutions are meeting or exceeding their expectations.
